Floor grinding explained step by step
To prepare the surface of a new floor, the first step is to grind the raw, dried-out floor using metal bond diamond tools with different grit sizes. Step two is to use resin or ceramic bond tools for finer grinding or polishing. After each grinding step, the excess material, mud and dust are vacuumed out. At certain points, various chemicals are applied for surface preparation and finishing. Depending on the desired surface characteristics, more or less grinding and polishing steps are performed with different tools.
Floor grinding from natural to terrazzo finishes
Tyrolit has developed floor grinding solutions for four different surface finishes that can be achieved with the floor grinding assortment. For these solutions, Tyrolit recommends a combination of defined tools and chemicals.
Essential Finish: For a matt concrete look with little visible aggregates
Silk Matt Finish: For a semi-matt surface with a terrazzo look
Shine Finish: For a high-gloss surface with a slight terrazzo look
High Gloss Finish: For a durable, sealed floor with a high-gloss terrazzo look

Floor grinding with the power trowel
Similar to floor grinding with the Tyrolit range of machines, three different methods with associated tools and floor preparation products have also been developed for machining with the power trowel. The end result of these methods varies from a matte to a slightly glossy to a high gloss finish. All grinding and polishing steps are carried out with the power trowel in wet use.
