Wire saws for concrete and steel: system solutions from Tyrolit

The wall thickness, steel content and geometry of the component to be machined are of little consequence: the larger the wire storage capacity of the selected machine, the deeper the cuts that can be made.

Electric, hydraulic or wire saws – an overview of the range

Our range of wire saws covers three drive types. Electrically powered models such as the WCE18 and WCE30 operate with a high-frequency drive and deliver up to 37 kW of power. Hydraulic models in the SB series are suitable for structures with a circumference of up to 10 m. The WCU17 is versatile: it can be operated either electrically or hydraulically using attachment kits. For circular cut-outs, we also stock circular wire saws: the CCE25 (electric) and the CCH25 (hydraulic) cut circles with diameters ranging from 500 to 2,500 mm, thereby replacing expensive, heavy-duty large-hole drilling operations.

Which materials can be machined using Tyrolit wire saws?

Tyrolit wire saws are primarily used to cut concrete and reinforced concrete – the most common applications being renovation, demolition and bridge dismantling. Saw wires for steel, masonry and non-ferrous metals are also available for both everyday and bespoke applications. For bespoke steel-cutting applications, we offer spliced wire saws in lengths of up to 50 m. The material you are cutting determines the appropriate wire saw quality grade (PREMIUM, STANDARD or BASIC) – not the machine itself.

Which Tyrolit wire saw is suitable for which size of structure?

The most important parameter when purchasing a wire saw is the gross wire length or the wire storage capacity, as this determines the maximum circumference of the workpiece that can be cut. With a gross wire length of 15.5 m, the SB-E and SB ATEX are suitable for workpieces with a circumference of up to 10 m. The WCU17 (17 m) covers circumferences of up to 12.6 m. The WCE18, with a wire length of 19 m, is capable of handling even larger structures. The WCE30, with a gross wire length of 30 m and a wire reserve of 26 m, represents the top of the range – designed for the demolition of the largest structures such as bridges, chimneys and foundations.

What are Tyrolit wire saws made of?

At the heart of our electric wire saws is a high-frequency drive: the WCE18 delivers 18 kW, whilst the WCE30 is powered by a 37 kW twin motor. The wire speed can be continuously adjusted from 0 to 25 m/s, and the tensile force can be finely adjusted thanks to pneumatic wire tensioning – together, this results in optimised cutting performance. The chassis of the WCE30 is made of stainless steel for long-lasting durability on the construction site. All models form part of the modular Tyrolit system: components such as drives can be combined and reused depending on the application.

Wire saws for hazardous areas: What does ATEX certification mean?

For use in potentially explosive atmospheres, Tyrolit offers the SB ATEX The world’s first ATEX-certified wire saw for Zone 1 explosive atmospheres. The certification confirms that the machine’s drive system and equipment are designed in such a way that they do not pose an ignition source in explosive atmospheres – for example, during demolition work in the oil and gas industry or in petrochemical plants. With a gross wire length of 15.5 m, the SB ATEX can handle structures with a circumference of up to 10 m.
