Tyrolit offers a comprehensive range of grinding tools for floor grinding and surface preparation. It covers all materials on which floor grinders and trowels are used: concrete of all hardness grades, screed, natural stone and terrazzo. The range includes metal-bonded diamond tools for coarse grinding, and ceramic- and resin-bonded tools for fine and intermediate grinding, grinding and polishing pads for final polishing, as well as PKD tools and stock tools for surface preparation. In addition, there is the appropriate accessories from tool holders to Mohs hardness test kits.
The product range is organised by process stage and application. For substrate preparation, PCD tools (grinding shoes and grinding discs in various segment shapes such as Cobra, Alligator, Piranha and Tiger) are available, as well as BHU block tools for roughening mineral surfaces such as concrete, asphalt and stone. For coarse grinding, FGC grinding shoes and diamond grinding discs with metal-bonded segments provide the necessary removal rate. The transition to fine grinding is handled by ceramic-bonded FTGC tools. Resin-bonded FPC tools and FGPU grinding and polishing pads are available for polishing concrete and terrazzo. The FMU cleaning pad complements the range for maintenance tasks. Tool holders for Tyrolit machines and third-party machines, as well as flexible Velcro pads, round off the range.
The choice of tool depends on the process stage and the substrate. Before the first grinding pass, it is important to determine whether coatings, adhesives or residues need to be removed: PCD tools or BHU stock tools are the first choice for this. Metal-bonded diamond tools (FGC) are used for the actual rough grinding of raw concrete. This is followed by ceramic-bonded tools (FTGC) for intermediate grinding, before resin-bonded tools (FPC) and grinding pads (FGPU) take over for the polishing stage. After each grinding stage, the removed material is vacuumed up. At certain stages, chemicals are applied to seal the pores and the surface. Depending on the desired finish, more or fewer grinding and polishing stages are carried out.
The type of bond used in the tool determines its application in the grinding process. Metal-bonded diamond tools — such as the FGC grinding shoes and grinding discs — are designed for rough grinding: they efficiently remove rough, untreated surfaces and are suitable for hard to extra-hard concrete. The tools are available in graduated hardness grades (SOFT to EXTRA HARD), which are tailored to the respective concrete strength. Ceramic-bonded tools (FTGC) handle the transition to fine grinding: they deliver a more uniform grinding pattern and prepare the surface for polishing. Resin-bonded tools (FPC) and grinding and polishing pads (FGPU) are used for polishing concrete and terrazzo, enabling the finest surface finishes. PCD tools (polycrystalline diamond) are not abrasives in the traditional sense, but rather removal tools for tough coatings, adhesive residues and thermoplastic materials.
Tyrolit has developed four defined finishing systems for floor grinding, which are achieved using specially matched tools and chemicals:

Silk Matt Finish — a satin-matt finish with a subtle terrazzo effect, suitable for showrooms and high-profile workspaces.
Shine Finish — a high-gloss finish with a subtle terrazzo effect, for high-end commercial spaces.
High-gloss finish — a durable, sealed floor with a high-gloss terrazzo finish, meeting the highest standards of appearance and durability.
The finish achieved, and the number of grinding and polishing steps required, depend on the substrate and the tool combinations used. Furthermore, all floor-grinding tools and chemicals including for individual workflows with which customers are already familiar.
Tyrolit grinding tools for floor grinding are designed specifically for machine range — floor grinders, floor milling machines and floor stripper — tailored to suit. For machines from other manufacturers, Tyrolit offers dedicated tool holders (TOOLH) and BHU modular tools, which are specifically designed for third-party machines. This allows Tyrolit grinding shoes and pads to be used on other common machine systems as well. The FGC grinding shoe and grinding disc series with metal-bonded segments is available in five hardness grades (SOFT, MEDIUM, HARD, VERY HARD, EXTRA HARD) and thus covers the entire spectrum from soft screed to extra-hard industrial concrete — with a segment shape tailored to each application for optimum surface contact and uniform removal.
