Conventional peripheral speeds of floorstand grinding wheels in the foundry industry are 50 m/s, 63 m/s and 80 m/s.
Wheels which run at 50 m/s and 63 m/s are applied without glass fibre reinforcement, altough for the 63 m/s it is still often desired as an extra safety precaution. Grinding wheels with 80 m/s have to be fibre reinforced.
Zirconium corundum is used in most abrasive mixtures for the machining of cast materials. The result is considerably shorter cutting times, higher stock removal rates and longer lifetimes.
